In this sea of constant expectation to optimize, niche down, scale up, plug in… I’m dropping out.
Not completely, of course.
I mean, I’m literally posting this on the internet.
Here’s what I really mean by that: when we make space to decorate our lives with pieces of intentionally crafted artwork, when we season our days with recipes rooted in tradition, when we heal through remedies we can create ourselves, and when we show gratitude for our lives by sharing our faith authentically… that’s the space where we craft a humanity-rooted, purposefully-lived life. And I want MORE of that.
As I approach my thirties I have become increasingly disenchanted with timeline driven tasks and performance reviews. In my corporate life, the things I truly enjoyed– art, cooking, foraging, writing think pieces– all seemed to take a back seat. I became so disconnected from the land we are blessed to have underneath us that I could hardly tell if that humming interrupting my thoughts was the cicadas or just our overheated wifi router.
This website is a tool to help me share that with a world that desperately needs it. In a world driven by timelines and deadlines, these are the practices that remind us we are human– but they are often the first things to be placed in the bottom right of an Eisenhower matrix when our lives get fast and overwhelming. This collection of offerings, recipes, tutorials and writings is an open door to slow down and explore those things that make us more than machines.
This isn’t a call to ditch everything digital, change your name to Grace, and move out West in a KIA… although I have totally done that, and it DID work for a time. This is an invitation for you to take a moment and reconnect to your humanity. Whether you’re looking for a simple tutorial on how to upcycle a thrifted coat or you want a four-week course on the basics of salves and tinctures… This space can lead you to a lot of things.
I pray that it leads you to a new piece of art in your collection, or a new recipe to prepare and serve on your late mamaw’s favorite plate, or a surprising herbal remedy you can craft from the weeds around your backstep, or a fresh perspective on faith through our shared human experience. More than anything, I pray that this space empowers you to take a moment to yourself and slow down where you can, even when you feel like you can’t or shouldn’t.
Actually– especially when you feel like you can’t or shouldn’t. I hope you’ll come along with me.
Love you,
Cayla
